VANCOUVER - Vancouver Community College’s Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Peter Nunoda as the college’s new President, effective August 18, 2014.
Dr. Nunoda brings over 27 years of experience in higher education to the role, most recently serving as the Vice President Academic and Research with Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek, B.C. Previously, he served as Dean, Faculty of Health with the University College of the North; Director of Access Programs at the University of Manitoba; and Program Director, Aboriginal Focus Programs at the University of Manitoba.
Dr. Nunoda led the development and implementation of a 5-year Academic Plan for Northern Lights College, as well as the development of a Strategic Enrolment Management Plan which resulted in direct domestic enrolment growth of 3 per cent and International enrolment growth of 75 per cent. Dr. Nunoda was instrumental in the development of Northern Lights’ Centre of Excellence in Training for Oil and Gas.
“It is an honour to have this opportunity to lead a college so well known for its strong roots in the community and its diverse range of access and career programs,” said Dr. Nunoda. “As a community college, VCC plays a unique role in post-secondary education, providing accessible pathways for many students looking to get into the job market, or to further their education. I look forward to strengthening and guiding the college during this time of renewal and opportunity.”
Originally from London, Ontario, Dr. Nunoda earned his B.A. in Honors History from the University of Western Ontario. He also holds an M.A. in History from the University of Windsor, and his Ph.D. in History from the University of Manitoba. He has authored a number of publications as well as conference papers on topics ranging from Best Practices in Professional Health Education Programs for Aboriginal People to Recruiting and Retaining Aboriginal Students in Post-Secondary Education.
