Urban neighbours gather for 7th annual Fair in the Square

VANCOUVER, B.C. --  It's a beautiful time of year to celebrate urban neighbourhoods.

On Sunday, May 26, thousands of people will gather near VCC's Downtown campus to enjoy a fun-filled day of free BBQ, arts and crafts, and live entertainment.

“Fair in the Square is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the urban neighbourhood by supporting local artisans, social enterprises and community groups,” says Vancouver Community College’s Racheal Deslauriers, co-organizer and volunteer coordinator.”

The event, a partnership with Central City Foundation, is in its seventh year. In 2012, volunteers served more than 2,500 burgers, 2,000 cupcakes, 800 litres of lemonade and 225 kilograms of watermelon. The food is prepared by students and instructors in VCC’s culinary arts programs.

Media are invited to attend (rain or shine) and encouraged to share photos from the event with @myVCC on Twitter using hashtag #FairInTheSquare.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Victory Square
(Pender St., across from VCC's Downtown campus)
