Bike to Work Week 2015

Vancouver Community College (VCC)’s team of 33 riders logged an incredible 1,726 km in 220 trips last week as part of HUB’s Bike to Work Week challenge!  Together, they burned 51,786 calories and saved 374 kg in greenhouse gas emissions.

Team leaders included:

-       Ron Kee: 210km in 6 rides
-       Tanis Sawkins: 149km in 12 rides
-       Lisa MacNeill: 135km in 4 rides
-       Graham Huckin: 52km in 2 rides

Individual efforts were inspiring.  Huckin, department head for VCC's drafting department (pictured below), rode from central Coquitlam to the Downtown campus.  “This year I beat my best time by five minutes westbound, and by 10 minutes eastbound.  I do it every year at least once during Bike to Work Week.”

In addition, more than 200 cyclists stopped by VCC's celebration station in the early morning of May 27th - way to go Vancouver! Cyclists were treated to the sounds of the WayOuts, and were given fresh fruit and energy bars to continue on their rides.

It is exciting to be part of a collective of 746 Lower Mainland companies and institutions that logged over 390,000 km and saved 84,660 kg in greenhouse gases.
