This is a program for students with cognitive disabilities. VCC provides a supportive environment for students to explore employment options, increase their level of job readiness, gain practical experience in community work settings, and set work-related goals.

Program Description

The training needs of the student are accomodated by a wide range of experiences including life skills, generic work skills, specific skill training, employment counselling and community work experiences. The program consists of approximately 26 weeks of classroom activities and 12 weeks of supervised community work experiences matched to the student's interests and abilities. Reading skills are not required.

VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.


Program Specific

Missing prerequisites? VCC offers courses in Adult Upgrading and English as an Additional Language to help you meet your goals.
  • Interview with the VCC program coordinator for students for disabilities
  • Diagnosis or history that reflects a difficulty with learning (documentation of disability or prior assessments may be required)
  • Participate in a successful intake process with VCC staff
  • Proven motivation to work, supported by previous reports or assessments
  • Working knowledge of English
  • Ability to use public transit independently
  • Freedom from conditions that would significantly impair learning, such as uncontrolled seizures, or severe behaviourial or emotional problems

VCC’s Community and Career Education (CACE) Department offers adult special education programs and courses for students with disabilities.

Areas of study include career awareness and exploration, food service careers, retail and hospitality, computer applications, literacy, and numeracy.
