LINC - Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada


This program provides adult Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees with English from beginner to intermediate levels. The LINC program at VCC will provide students English language training from Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 1 through 8. Students will work to improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course content will help students gain knowledge about community resources and life in Canada. The program also helps students build their confidence and independence in their abilities to access services and participate in Canadian society.

Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees who wish to take a LINC course must take a free assessment at one of the regional LINC assessment centres below. Once you have your assessment, report please bring your report to the LINC department office at the Broadway Campus (Building A - Room 3759) to be placed onto a waitlist or into a course if space is available.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 – 4 p.m.
Wednesday: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 – 5 p.m.
The office is closed on Fridays.

Program Description

Full-time program (LINC levels 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8):

Classes are Monday to Thursday and are 25 hours per week. New students may enter classes at the beginning of each term depending on seat availability.

Part-time program (LINC levels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8):

Classes are Monday to Thursday, 12.5 hours per week, in the morning, afternoon or evening. New students may start each term depending on seat availability.

Blended learning (LINC 5, 6, 7 and 8):

Classes offered on-line during the week and face to face on Saturdays from 9:00am-3:15pm. Computer Skills and a laptop is required for all students.

VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.
