Follow it up with University Level English 1101/1001. These courses are suitable for students with English as an additional language.

Program Description

University transfer credit courses: First year university English courses (ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102) are combined with integrated language support courses (ENGL 1001 and ENGL 1002) to help ESL learners succeed at this level. ENGL 1101 and 1102 are each assigned 3.0 credits and are transferrable to all degree granting post-secondary institutions in B.C.

VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 18 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.

Missing prerequisites? VCC offers courses in Adult Upgrading and English as an Additional Language to help you meet your goals.
Intensive Academic Reading and Writing (ELSK 0930)
  1. Successful completion of ESL Pathways 8 Reading and Writing (ELSK 0820) and ESL-Pathways 7 Listening and Speaking (ELSK 0715)
  2. VCC English Language Assessment (ELA): 20/30 Reading comprehension; 15 Essay; 20/30 Listening; 24/30 Speaking

University Transfer English 1101/1001
  1. Intensive Academic English Reading and Writing (ELSK 0930) completion with a C+ or higher
  2. IELTS score of 6.5 with no lower score than band 6
  3. TOEFL score with min. of 86
  4. VCC English Language Assessment (ELA) with min. of 16 on the essay.

New students to VCC who have taken English as a Second Language courses at other institutions should bring copies of their most recent transcripts and/or registration.

Learn with a leader in ESL education. VCC’s English as an Additional Language (EAL) department offers programs and courses for a variety of English language levels and education needs:

Attend an information session and you will learn about how to assess your language level, how to apply and register, what you can study after you improve your English, and how to apply for student loans if you are low income. Please bring a language assessment test or course results if you have them.

Join us at VCC's Broadway campus, 1155 East Broadway at Glen Drive, across from VCC/Clark SkyTrain station.
