Career Access - Academic Upgrading


Learn more about yourself and the world of work through Career Access courses offering assistance in career and educational decision making.

These courses help students learn how to research occupations, adjust to the changing labour market, set realistic goals and conduct a successful job search. Career Access courses are ongoing and taught in a flexible format to suit the adult learner's schedule. They are operated through the Essential Skills Centre, located at the VCC Downtown Campus, Room 236.

This program is tuition-free, however other fees (e.g. application fee, U-Pass fee) are still charged.
For assistance with these costs, ask VCC Financial Aid about the non-repayable Adult Upgrading Grant.

Admission Requirements

General

VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 18 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

Please note that you must submit official transcripts and educational documents to support your application; unfortunately, we cannot accept photocopies or fax versions.


Program Specific

Missing prerequisites? VCC offers courses in Adult Upgrading and English as an Additional Language to help you meet your goals.
  • Students should be 18 years of age or older, or out of the public school system for at least one year
  • College assessments in reading, writing and mathematics may be required
  • All students must see an advisor for course placement and permission to register
  • ESL students wishing to register in self-paced:
    • Mathematics must have completed Upper Intermediate English or higher
    • Physics must have completed Upper Advanced English or higher
    • Biology must have completed English 059 or higher, and
    • General Science must have completed Upper Advanced English or higher.

U-Pass Fee $41 - per month subject to eligibility
Other Costs $8 - Campus Resource Fee
