Fully recognized by the Industry Training Authority, students earn apprenticeship qualifications in addition to a VCC credential. This program is designed to train people for the automotive repair industry and graduates will have acquired basic knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to carry out their duties in a safe, ethical and professional manner.

Program Description
This ten-month program parallels first-year automotive technician apprenticeship training to enhance a graduate's employability in the industry. Instructional time is (approximately) 35% classroom and 65% practical activity. Classroom activities are lectures, demonstrations, audio-visual presentations and exercises. Practical experience takes place in an active shop setting dealing with real customers. The extensive workshop experience provides reinforcement of theoretical concepts, develops hand skills, and familiarity with repair procedures, electronic equipment standard safety procedures. All modules are designed to enable the student to work independently and in groups.
Upon successful completion of the program, students receive credit from the ITA for the first level of apprenticeship training in Automotive Service Technician.

Program Specific
Graduation from an appropriate career preparation program or meet the English and Math requirements of:
- English 11 or Communications 12 or equivalent
- Math 10 or equivalent
Relevant trade experience is considered
Recommended characteristics
- Basic Computer Skills
- Good general health and respiratory condition
- Physical strength and stamina compatible with the handling of heavy parts and equipment as required by the program
- Ability to tolerate noise and vibration
- Mechanical aptitude and interest
- Good manual dexterity
- Good hand-eye coordination
- Good eyesight and normal colour vision
- Good line, form and depth perception
- Possession of valid BC driver's license
