Board of Governors
Vancouver Community College is a public post-secondary education institution. The Board of Governors administers the college, on behalf of the government of British Columbia and the Ministry of Advanced Education, and determines policy and reviews the college's performance as detailed in the College and Institute Act, Part 4, Section 19.

Don Fairbairn has 30 years of leadership experience in the infrastructure industry, which includes electricity generation, light-rail transportation, water treatment and natural gas utilities. Fairbairn has been an active member of many community organizations and is currently President of DCF Consulting. He is a board member for the Streetohome Foundation. |
Pamela Aikman, Vice-Chair; and Chair, Human Resources Committee

Pam Aikman has worked as a senior leader in multi-site health-care organizations for more than 10 years. Aikman is currently the Provincial Director of Stroke Services B.C. She also has her own leadership consulting and executive coaching practice. She is associate faculty, Royal Roads University where she teaches in the Masters of Leadership program and MBA program. |
Kathy Kinloch

Kathy Kinloch is repositioning Vancouver Community College to fulfill its true potential within the array of BC post secondary institutions. Under Kathy's leadership as President, strategies are underway to ensure VCC responds effectively to employer and community needs in the Metro Vancouver area by delivering effective and relevant education and training. Prior to joining VCC, Kathy served as Dean, BCIT School of Health Sciences, where during her tenure Kathy led a 'turn-around' to re-engage and increase the effectiveness of BCIT's collaboration by addressing health industry needs. Kathy's senior health leadership roles include serving as a Senior Advisor, British Columbia Ministry of Health Services where she was an integral leader in the development of a provincial 'wait times' strategy, and as Chief Operating Officer, Fraser Health where she led a wide array of health system changes. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science (Nursing) from University of Alberta, a Masters degree in Leadership and a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching both from Royal Roads University, and was a 2010 Vancouver YWCA nominee in Public Sector leadership. She is a frequent speaker and her current community involvement includes serving on the Coast Mental Health Board, Chair Academy Presidents International Advisory Board, as Associate Faculty Royal Roads University and Co-Chair of the BC Academic Health Council. Kathy is pleased to be a member of the International Women's Forum, a body that advances women's leadership across careers, cultures, and continents. |
Edward McGurk, Chair, Finance Committee

Edward (Ted) McGurk is currently Vice-President and Director for TD Securities. He is a previous director of RBC Capital Markets. He has worked on projects for Xantrex Technologies, Boston Pizza, Royalties Income Fund, Finning, Ballard Power, MacDonald Dettwiler and Columbia Power Corp. McGurk has an MBA from the University of B.C. and a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Ottawa. |
Jim Storie, Chair, Governance Committee

Jim Storie is President and CEO of the Vancouver Trolley Company. He is current Chair of the Vancouver's Arts Club Theatre Company and a board member with Action Line Housing. Storie received his Bachelor of Hospitality Management at Vancouver Community College. He also completed the Institute of Corporate Director's Governance essentials program and obtained his ICD.D designation. |

She has worked in academic, public, and special libraries and performed surveillance for the Vancouver Stock Exchange. She currently works at the VCC library and Vancouver Public Library. |
Karen Cook

Karen Cook is current Principal of Cook Public Relations Inc. and Vice-President of Client Services at Hoggan and Associates. She has provided communications counsel for many Canadian companies including QLT Inc., A&W Food Services of Canada Ltd., the District of Squamish, and PCI Group. Cook is a frequent speaker for the Canadian Public Relations Society and a member of the International Association of Business Communicators. |
Sally Gibson

Sally Gibson is department head responsible for VCC's Bachelor of Hospitality Management program. In 2007, Gibson was awarded the Canadian Library Trustees' Association Award of Merit for distinguished service. She is a former chair of North Vancouver District Public Libraries and past president of the B.C. Library Trustees' Association. She was also secretary-treasurer of the Canadian Library Trustees Association. |

Cathy Young is Principal of Young Strategies Ltd. She is a practising chartered accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. Young is a former associate at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP and former manager of consulting at KPMG. Young has a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Bishop's University in Quebec and a Bachelor of Law from the University of B.C. |
Janet Zlotnik, Faculty representative

Janet Zlotnik is currently head of VCC's College Preparatory English department. She is a current board member for the Charter for Public Education and HUGGS Canada. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University, an MA in English from McMaster University, and a TESL certificate from the University of B.C. |

All Board meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. except where noted.
Please note: all persons or groups wishing to make a presentation to the Board must submit their request in writing to the Executive Assistant to the Board of Governors (mmurray@vcc.ca) at least 14 days in advance of the meeting date.
There are no scheduled meetings for June, July, August, and December.
